The Ballad of Lauren & Trenton
Lauren and Trenton went to the same high school, had many of the same friends and yet never actually met. It took a few years for the stars to align and these two powerful forces to collide.
One night while at a housewarming party for Andrea Grimes they connected. He was hooked on her adorable short haircut and her love of a then new talent Tony Romo. She doesn't remember much from the night, but she does remember seeing hearts in Trenton's eyes whenever she mentioned his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Various run-ins and 22 late night voice mails at a bonfire party on Christmas Eve passed and after a few months Lauren wasn't dating anyone, and Trenton wasn't dating anyone...and still pining for her.
Lauren finally agreed to go out on a few non-dates (Trenton still paid for everything, yet Lauren denied they were dates) and then one night at a magical place called "Hoots & Hollers" Lauren was struck with cupid's arrow. Lauren had always wanted to get on stage to play tambourine with the band at Hoots and after a few Coors Originals Trenton got up the nerve to tell the band it was Lauren's birthday so she could get on stage and live out her dream.
After that, the rest was history. They fell in love and haven't looked back.
So, how did he propose?
Well! While we were on vacation with his father, step-mother, brother, sister-in-law and step-brother the plan was a brewing. We had journeyed to Kerrville, Texas to get away from it all. I should have known something was up. That Friday at midnight was the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Trenton agreed, without protest, to go wait in line with me at the local Wal-Mart so me and the girls could watch it the next day. We were staying in a beautiful house on a golf course and relaxing and having a great time. We had dinner on Friday night at a restaurant that was on top of a very high hill and had incredible views. It seemed like you could see forever! This location gave Trenton an idea...an idea that would change us and our lives...forever....
So that Sunday before it was time to leave, very early in the morning (early for me at least) Trenton said, "Hey I would like to go see that view one last time, maybe we can see some animals." Me, being dense as I am, did not read into this at all. "I like animals" I thought. I followed him there to check out this view. And BOOM. He blindsided me. It was like a sucker punch.
No one knows exactly what was said (it was kind of a blur), but a knee was dropped, a ring presented, and a "Yes" proclaimed. I'm sure the view was spectacular, but to be honest I don't remember even looking.
My dad was able to keep the secret, so my mom wasn't able to accidentally spill the beans. We announced it to family and friends that night, we were too excited to keep it in. Now, here we are.
